Gulfstream is a technology leader in the business-aviation field. We developed the first airplane designed specifically for business travel in the 1950s. Not long afterward, we created the first large-cabin business jet and then the first business jet to fly nonstop to Europe. We offered the first all-glass cockpit in business aviation. We were the first manufacturer to offer an Enhanced Vision System as a standard item on an aircraft. And, we designed the first cockpit with an integrated avionics suite featuring 14-inch (36 cm) liquid crystal displays in landscape format.

Today's comprehensive fleet of eight Gulfstream business jets meets every price point and mission requirement from 3,000 nautical miles (5,556 km) to 7,000 nm (12,964 km). In addition, Gulfstream airplanes serve as ideal platforms for special-missions aircraft operated by military and governments worldwide.

Fly By Light

FLY-BY-LIGHT

Gulfstream has demonstrated the capability to control an aircraft using advanced Fly-by-Light technology. A specially equipped GV test aircraft conducted a 75-minute flight out of Savannah using a fiber-optic harness that transferred pilot-control input from a flight-control computer to spoilers on the wing.

The test flight was the first time Fly-By-Light technology had been tested on the primary flight-control surfaces of a Gulfstream business jet. Streamlining a bulky wire bundle into just four fiber-optic wires generated a significant weight savings and increased the margin of safety over Fly-By-Wire systems. Gulfstream continues to research future applications for the technology.

Enhanced Vision System

ENHANCED VISION SYSTEM

Since it was certified for use by the FAA in 2005, the Gulfstream Enhanced Vision SystemTM has become the industry standard for all vision-enhancing systems. EVS represents a major advance in aviation safety. A forward-looking infrared camera projects a real-world image on the pilot's Honeywell Head-Up Display.

By projecting a clear picture of the view from the cockpit, EVS enables the pilot to distinguish terrain, obstacles, the runway and any aircraft or vehicles on taxiways — even in darkness or inclement weather. EVS vastly improves the level of situational awareness for pilots in all weather conditions.

G650

THE G650 BUSINESS JET

Perhaps the greatest indication of our commitment to preserving the environment is the way we design our aircraft. The ultra-large cabin, ultra-long-range Gulfstream G650 is the flagship of the Gulfstream fleet. It will fly farther and faster than any other business jet in its class. Yet, the G650 will achieve better fuel efficiency and lower emissions than any competing business jet.

Broadband

BROAD BAND MULTI-LINK

The latest high-tech feature from Gulfstream for our large-cabin business jets, Broad Band Multi-Link (BBML) delivers Internet access via a broad band data channel between the aircraft and the ground. BBML achieves data speeds of up to 3.5 Mb per second.

BBML enables Gulfstream operators to search the Internet; read and send e-mail, including large attachments; and eventually participate in video conferencing with voice and video over the Internet.

Planebook

PLANEBOOK

Gulfstream was the first to introduce PlaneBook, a tablet computer preloaded with a complete reference library that includes the Airplane Flight Manual, Operating Manual, Pilot Checklist and the Quick Reference Handbook for that airplane model.

This paperless solution eliminates the need for pilots to carry aboard heavy and bulky manuals containing all of the critical flight information they need. Gulfstream has made all this information available in a handy, user-friendly computer tablet. The paperless cockpit solution reduces pilot workload and improves pilot efficiency — all at the touch of a button.
