GULFSTREAM SUPPORTS NBAA'S DECISION TO CANCEL ITS 2001 CONVENTION
Company Offers Static Display Aircraft to Assist Federal Government With National Contingency, Emergency Medical Missions
Savannah, Georgia, September 12, 2001 - Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (GD), today expressed its full support of the decision by the National Business Aviation Association to cancel its 54th Annual Meeting and Convention in New Orleans later this month.
The NBAA's decision came just a day after a coordinated series of terrorist attacks against American financial and military symbols caused innumerable casualties in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
"We support this action out of respect for those who lost their lives in the tragic events in our country's cities earlier this week," said Bill Boisture, president and chief operating officer. "We have decided not to ask our people to travel away from their families at this time, and we are keeping our key leadership in place to ensure the continuity of our business operations.
"In addition to being an important industry meeting and conference, the annual NBAA convention is a celebration of the accomplishments of our industry. Although Gulfstream has enjoyed great success in the past year, this would not have been an appropriate time for us to celebrate that success," Boisture said.
"We are open for business at our locations, building and servicing our customers' airplanes at all facilities across the country. We are committed to the effective support of the Gulfstream aircraft in the service of our nation's government and are proud to do so. We have offered the Gulfstream aircraft that would otherwise have been on static display next week to support national contingency and emergency medical missions," Boisture continued.
"This decision is also fully supported by our parent company, General Dynamics. We believe the decision will receive the same support from our customers and all our people," he said.
Gulfstream joins its fellow Americans in mourning the loss of life that has ensued as a result of yesterday's actions.
