GULFSTREAM RECEIVES FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION APPROVAL TO INCREASE GULFSTREAM V "A CHECK" FROM 450 TO 500 HOURS
Savannah, GA, January 9, 2002 - Less than four-and-a-half years after entering service in July, 1997, the Gulfstream V business jet aircraft received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to extend the Gulfstream V A Check requirement from 450 to 500 hours, a more than 10 percent increase.
"The extension to 500 hours between A Checks is a significant advantage for our Gulfstream V operators," said Larry Flynn, Senior Vice President, Aircraft Services, Gulfstream Aerospace. "The FAA's vote of confidence is a result of Gulfstream's dedication to deliver to our customers' products that provide the best quality and reliability in the industry. The contributions of the Gulfstream V team are commendable," he added.
The FAA typically approves inspection interval extensions on an item by item basis. In this case, based on the outstanding performance to date of the Gulfstream V business jet aircraft, the FAA authorized a universal extension that extends all A Check items from the initial 1A Check up to and including the 8A Checks. This translates into a 50-hour extension for the 1A items and progresses to a 400-hour extension for the 8A items. These extensions not only translate into a reduction in downtime, but also reduce the scheduled A Check maintenance by 10% and yield 6% savings in overall scheduled maintenance labor costs.
The GV is the first ultra-long range, large-cabin business jet. More than 160 have been sold through June 30, 2001, and the GV currently holds some 69 national and world records for speed, distance and endurance, as well as being the recipient of the prestigious 1997 Robert J. Collier Trophy. The GV has a range in the order of 6,500 nautical miles, a cruise altitude of some 51,000 feet and travels at Mach 0.8.
