GULFSTREAM ACHIEVES RECORD INTERNATIONAL SALES
Commitment in Asia – Pacific Region Producing Positive Results
Asian Aerospace, Singapore, February 26, 2002 - Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has sold a record number of aircraft to international customers since Asian Aerospace 2000. International sales were particularly strong for the ultra long-range Gulfstream V and Gulfstream V-SP. "Gulfstream has made significant investments in its international sales efforts and we are seeing the results,” said Joe Walker, senior vice president, worldwide sales, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. “Since Asian Aerospace 2000, we have sold more than 30 Gulfstream IV-SP, V and V-SP business aircraft to international customers. This represents a record number of international sales in any two year period in Gulfstream’s 44 year history,” he added.
“Gulfstream now has a team of four dedicated, permanent field representatives located in Asia to support the current fleet along with two dedicated sales representatives in the region to develop new business interests to generate additional growth. Our commitment to Asia is also reflected by our pre-positioning of $3.5 million worth of spare parts and inventory in Singapore and Hong Kong,” continued Walker.
To further boost the company’s presence in Asia, Gulfstream has based a GIV in Hong Kong. The aircraft is used for demonstration flights that will further business aviation interests in the region and support future growth. Metrojet of Hong Kong has established a charter service operating within Asia and is using the Gulfstream IV based in Hong Kong. For added convenience the Metrojet facility is also a designated Gulfstream Authorized Line Service Facility.
Setting more than 70 world and national records since its introduction in 1997, the Gulfstream V offers the most advanced technology available in business aviation today. The current in-service GV fleet stands at more than 139 aircraft that have a combined total of well over 120,000 hours.
The Gulfstream IV/IV-SP fleet has set more than 74 world and national records for its class, including time to climb, payload to altitude, maximum altitude, speed around the world (both eastbound and westbound) and numerous speed records between city pairs.
The Gulfstream IV/IV-SP fleet has logged more than 1.6 million flight hours worldwide and boasts a dispatch reliability rate in excess of 99.5 percent. The Gulfstream IV was certified in April 1987 and superseded by the Gulfstream IV-SP in September 1992.
