GULFSTREAM APPOINTS FOUR AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTERS IN SOUTH AMERICA
Aerocardal, Aerocentro, Riana Táxi Aéreo, VEM to Provide Service, Maintenance for Gulfstream Fleet
ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 11, 2002 – Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today announced that it has appointed four authorized line service centers to support Gulfstream business jets in South America. Gulfstream has authorized Aerocardal in Santiago, Chile; Aerocentro de Servicios C.A. in Caracas, Venezuela; Riana Táxi Aéreo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Varig Engineering and Maintenance (VEM), headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to perform maintenance, service and repairs on Gulfstream aircraft.
"We’re pleased that these four companies have joined our worldwide network of service and maintenance facilities," said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream Product Support. "Our worldwide representation ensures that operators joining the Gulfstream fleet in South America have available to them the same level of technical training as our customers in the Northern Hemisphere."
"The South American business jet market is extremely important to Gulfstream," said Bill Boisture, Gulfstream president. "The addition of these service centers confirms Gulfstream’s commitment to providing our South American operators incomparable aircraft maintenance and customer service on the continent."
Aerocardal will support Gulfstream’s mid-cabin, high-speed business jet from its maintenance facility located at the Arturo Merino Benitz Airport in Santiago. In addition to passenger transportation, ambulance and ground-handling services, Aerocardal provides maintenance, repairs and services for a varied fleet of fixed-wing aircraft. Aerocardal is known for its investment in its facilities, equipment and people. Its engineers, mechanics and technicians are trained each year on-site at aircraft manufacturers in the United States. Recognizing excellence, Professional Pilot magazine recently voted Aerocardal the best Central and South American fixed base operator.
Based in Caracas, Aerocentro will provide service and maintenance for Gulfstream’s entire range of aircraft – from its large-cabin, ultra-long-range aircraft to its mid-cabin, high-speed aircraft. Its maintenance facilities are located at the Caracas International Airport as well as at the Charallave, La Carlota, Maturin and Maiquetia airports. Aerocentro, which employs highly trained personnel, has available specialized tools and equipment and maintains an appropriate level of spare parts inventory. In addition to inspections and testing, Aerocentro’s specialty shops – non-destructive testing, equipment calibration, starter-generator overhaul, machine and sheet metal – provide on-site diagnostics, calibrations, fabrications and repairs.
Riana Táxi Aéreo will provide support for Gulfstream’s mid-cabin, high-speed, and large-cabin, mid-range aircraft from its maintenance facility at the Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro. Riana Táxi Aéreo performs inspections, maintenance and warranty service on both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. In addition to maintenance, Riana Táxi Aéreo provides air taxi service and serves as a fixed base operation, supporting the needs of private aircraft operators.
VEM will provide maintenance support as well as warranty repairs for the entire Gulfstream aircraft fleet out of its Salgado Filho Airport maintenance facility in Porto Alegre, Brazil. VEM and SATA (Servicos Auxiliares de Transporte Aereo S/A), a ground handling service for private aircraft operators, are both subsidiaries of Varig, South America’s largest air transportation company. VEM provides on-site engineering, diagnostics, calibrations, fabrications, repairs and overhauls through its many specialized shops.
