GULFSTREAM APPOINTS BILL SHIRA AS VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING AND SALES SUPPORT
SAVANNAH, Ga., July 24, 2003 – Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), announced today that Bill Shira has been appointed vice president of Marketing and Sales Support. He will be based in Savannah and report to Raynor Reavis, senior vice president, Marketing and Sales.
Shira is currently vice president of Sales Information, with responsibilities that include Sales Engineering and Technical Marketing. In his new position, Marketing Services, Event Marketing, Direct Marketing and Market Research will be added to his responsibilities.
"Bill has been with Gulfstream for more than 20 years and his experience and leadership style will bring a new dimension to our marketing and sales activities," said Raynor Reavis. "In this tough, but slowly improving economic climate, I am pleased we were able to find someone with Bill’s capabilities within our own ranks."
Shira started his aviation career as an aerodynamics engineer for Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company. After joining Gulfstream in 1982, he worked as an engineering specialist in the development of the Gulfstream GIV and GIV-SP as well as for special mission platforms. Shira later served as a lead engineer in Applied Aerodynamics and a section head in Aerodynamics before becoming Manager, then Director, of Flight Sciences during the development of the Gulfstream GV program. He was appointed to Director of Sales Engineering and Technical Marketing in 1998 and promoted to Vice President, Sales Information in 2002. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering.
