GULFSTREAM APPOINTS RICHARD L. JOHNSON VICE PRESIDENT, ENGINEERING
SAVANNAH, Ga., Aug. 12, 2003 - Richard L. Johnson has been appointed vice president, engineering, Gulfstream Aerospace.
Johnson, who joined Gulfstream in 1981 as a structures technical specialist, participated in the design and certification of three business jet models - the Gulfstream III (GIII), Gulfstream IV (GIV) and Gulfstream V (GV) - as well as several military variants of these aircraft. He has held leadership positions in the Structures, Sustaining and Project Engineering departments and served as the onsite technical representative for Aerostructures Corporation in Nashville, Tenn., overseeing the GIV wing design project.
In 1991, Johnson was appointed engineering project manager for the GV development program and later was promoted to vice president, chief engineer, responsible for the technical development of the large-cabin, ultra-long-range Gulfstream G550 and G500 business jets.
Before joining Gulfstream, Johnson was employed by Lockheed-Georgia Company. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Cincinnati, which recognized him in 2000 as one of its Distinguished Alumni. Johnson is a 6-year member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
