G550 RECEIVES EUROPEAN AVIATION AGENCIES' OFFICIAL NOD
Joint Aviation Authorities and European Aviation Safety Agency Validate U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Certification of G550 Business Jet
SAVANNAH, Ga., March 9, 2004 – Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today received both validation by the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) and a Type Certificate from the new European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for the U.S. aircraft manufacturer's large-cabin, ultra-long-range Gulfstream G550 business-jet aircraft. Together, the EASA Type Certificate and JAA recommendation letter enable the G550 to be certified and registered within 37 European and neighboring countries.
"European business jet owners and operators now have more choice available to them in the ultra-long-range business jet aircraft segment," said Bryan Moss, president, Gulfstream. "We believe the G550's 6,750-nautical-mile-range, its outstanding cabin comfort and exclusive safety enhancement that allows it to land in low-visibility conditions will serve the intercontinental European business traveler well.
"Additionally, with the establishment of the Gulfstream London-Luton Product Support facility in April 2003, Gulfstream G550 owners and operators in Europe have available to them a company-owned and operated maintenance center in their region to which they can entrust their aircraft."
Certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in August 2003, the G550 is the most advanced business jet available in corporate aviation today. With its enhanced performance, the G550 can fly up to 6,750 nautical miles nonstop, reach a maximum speed of .885 Mach and cruise at a maximum altitude of 51,000 feet. The cabin features a 100-percent fresh air system, a maximum cabin altitude of 6,000 feet and 14 large oval windows that allow both sunlight and moonlight to fill the cabin. With accommodations for up to 18 passengers, the G550 cabin offers an ideal working and living environment for long, intercontinental flights.
The G550, with its state-of-the-art PlaneView™ cockpit and Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System, was designed to enhance both safety and ease of operation.
Testament to its capabilities, the G550 already has set numerous city-pair speed records since entering service this past September, including a 6,554-nautical-mile flight from Savannah, Ga., to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, breaking a distance record of 6,132 nautical miles set by a Gulfstream V in 1997.
