GULFSTREAM DELIVERS 100TH G200 BUSINESS JET
Large-Cabin, Mid-Range Jet Is a True Gulfstream
SAVANNAH, Ga., Dec. 20, 2004 – Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today delivered the 100th large-cabin, mid-range Gulfstream G200 business jet. NetJets, a Berkshire Hathaway company and provider of private aviation travel solutions throughout the world, accepted the G200 at Gulfstream's Dallas facility where it was outfitted.
"We are pleased to take delivery of G200, serial number 100, for our growing fleet of NetJets aircraft," said Bill Boisture, president, NetJets Aviation. "The G200 has proven to be an aircraft we can rely on time and time again. Also, for a super-mid-size plane, the roomy G200 cabin provides our customers an exceptional level of comfort."
The first super-mid-size business jet to enter the marketplace, the G200 rolled out in 1997; was certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in 1998; and entered service in 2000. In 2001, NetJets placed 50 firm orders for the G200 with an option for 50 more. On June 30, 2002, NetJets took delivery of its first G200. To date, NetJets has taken delivery of 12 G200s.
During the past three years, Gulfstream has introduced considerable improvements and weight reductions to the G200 to further improve its reliability and performance. Today, the G200 has a dispatch reliability rate in excess of 99 percent, a range of 3,400 nautical miles and has shed some 450 pounds. In September this year, the G200 received type certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency, enabling it to be registered in 25 European Union countries.
"In just four years, the G200 fleet has grown to 100 aircraft," said Bryan Moss, president, Gulfstream. "Customers appreciate its power, performance, reliability, versatility and, with its low ramp profile, are surprised at the amount of space available in the stand-up sized cabin."
The G200's outstanding performance characteristics include excellent climb, high-cruising altitude, high-speed, long-range and short-landing capabilities. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW 306A engines, the G200 can reach speeds up to Mach .85 at altitudes up to 45,000 feet. Even with this level of performance, the G200 has an hourly operating cost lower than other large-cabin, mid-range jets.
The G200 stand-up cabin offers seating configurations that can accommodate up to 10 passengers. With low ambient noise levels, 100 percent fresh air and natural light from generous windows, the cabin provides a comfortable workspace for busy passengers while helping to offset the effects of travel fatigue.
As with every Gulfstream aircraft, the design of the G200 cockpit incorporates industry-leading technology. In addition to the Engine Indicating and Crew Alert System (EICAS), the flight deck features an Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS), which provides critical electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems information at a glance.
For efficiency and safety, the G200 also includes the Traffic alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) with windshear warning. As an enhancement to the Honeywell EGPWS, customers can opt for the Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS). A ground-based system, RAAS provides pilots aural alerts to avoid collisions, identify runways or caution when approaching end-of-runway.
Earlier this year, Gulfstream began offering Safe Flight Instrument Corporation's Enhanced Autopower® Automatic Throttle System (ATS) as a retrofit on in-service G200s and as optional equipment on new G200s. Also this year, Flight ID, a transponder upgrade that enables G200 aircraft to fly in European airspace, became available as an STC for customer aircraft and as an option for new aircraft.
The G200 aircraft is built by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), then painted and outfitted by Gulfstream. The G200 fleet of aircraft has flown a total of 80,388 flight hours and completed 49,755 take-offs and landings through Sept 30, 2004.
