GULFSTREAM APPOINTS TWO NEW REGIONAL SALES VICE PRESIDENTS FOR ASIA

Herman Chai and Peter Hoi Bring More Than 40 Years of Aviation Experience, Multiple Languages to the Gulfstream Hong Kong Office

 

SAVANNAH , Ga. , Jan. 22, 2007 Gulfstream Aerospace has appointed two new regional sales vice presidents to represent Gulfstream business-jet offerings to the Asian market. Herman Chai, previously Gulfstream director of completion design, will oversee sales in mainland China , Japan and South Korea . Peter Hoi, previously director of engineering and certification for Alliant Techsystems in Fort Worth , Texas , and a former Gulfstream employee, will be responsible for sales in Hong Kong , Macau , Taiwan and the Philippines.

Both men will be relocating to the Gulfstream Hong Kong office where they will represent Gulfstream’s entire fleet of in-production business-jet aircraft – the G550, G500, G450, G350, G200 and the G150.

An 18-year Gulfstream employee, Herman Chai joined the company in 1988 as a weight and balance engineer in the company’s Long Beach , Calif. , aircraft completions facility. Changing his focus from engineering to design, he moved to the Design department in 1994 as an interior designer. He was promoted to interior design manager in 1999 and in 2003 he transferred to Gulfstream’s headquarters in Savannah . In 2005, Chai was promoted to director, completion design, overseeing all Gulfstream aircraft interior design across the five Gulfstream aircraft completions facilities.

Chai earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Northrop University in Los Angeles . He holds a commercial pilot’s license for both fixed and rotary wing aircraft as well as multi-engine and instrument ratings. In addition to English, Chai is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Hakka.

Peter Hoi brings to Gulfstream 23 years of aviation experience. Most recently, he was instrumental in capturing numerous Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense contracts for special mission aircraft during his three years with Alliant Techsystems, Inc. In addition to being director of engineering and certification, he also served as director of engineering and operations, where he was responsible for expansion of the company’s product offerings and operational efforts during start-up.

As a Federal Aviation Administration Designated Engineering Representative (DER), Hoi began his own engineering consulting and services aviation company in 2002. Prior to that, he was the director of engineering for Galaxy Aerospace in Fort Worth , and subsequently for Gulfstream Aerospace after Galaxy was acquired in 2001. Hoi first joined Gulfstream as an engineer in 1986, increasing his responsibilities during the next 10 years in the area of design, structures and service engineering. Hoi began his aviation career in 1984 as an aircraft technician for Western Airlines in Los Angeles.

Hoi earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering technology and a Master of Science degree in engineering and management option from Northrop University . He is a FAA DER for management and structures and holds an airframe and powerplant (A&P) license. He is currently enrolled in the Executive Master of Business Administration program at the University of Texas at Arlington . Hoi is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Fuzhou and Burmese.
